On 6th September 2007 the eagerly awaited ADR- winners in the hardest rose trials in the world were announced. ADR this means Allgemeine Deutsche Rosenneuheitenprüfung, where rose novelties are put to their paces. They are tested three years long in 11 test gardens all over Germany without any use of pesticides. Independent experts will evaluate the novelties regularly for their qualities like beauty, qualities like beauty, presentation, flowering, growth and above all resistance against fungal diseases.

W. Kordes Söhne has already won many ADR-awards, but the breeder wanted to fly at higher game! Since more than 15 years Kordes totally stopped use of fungicides on the test fields. Thomas Proll, manager of the breeding section, describes his goals as follows: „With our long-time knowledge of hereditary factors and genealogy as well as with one of the largest breeding programs in the world we try here at Kordes to breed healthy roses that will show profuse flowering and good resistance against fungal diseases under different climatic conditions.“

This new breeding philosophy is crowned with success year after year. After having received 5 ADR awards in 2006, Kordes creates sensation in 2007 when 7 of 14 awards were given to the breeder from Northern Germany.
Two climbing roses out of the actual collection of Climbing Max, ’Laguna®’ and ’Jasmina®’, the bed roses ’KOSMOS®’ and ’Sunstar®’ and two other breedings of Kordes, which have not yet been named, are the new ADR-winners.

More than 1500 varieties have been tested in ADR-trials until now and 155 have been decorated ADR, 55 of these have originated from the breeding work at Kordes’ rose nursery! (You may get more information on the ADR-website: http://www.adr-rose.de)
